Marilynn Seits: Bio

Marilynn Seits - Jazz Pianist

Artist’s Bio: Pianist Marilynn Seits

I currently live in the Riverdale section of New York City and I am available for big band and small ensemble work as well as solo piano performances. I have an electric keyboard, complete sound system & car and having owned my own recording studio, I’m familiar with all types of audio & recording equipment, MIDI & digital recording & editing programs. My current musical engagements include Java Jo'z Cafe in Scarsdale and entertaining on the piano at several senior and community centers in Riverdale and the Bronx.

I began my musical career as a music major in the 1960’s at the U of Illinois playing in the Illinois Jazz Band with trumpeters Cecil Bridgewater & Jim Knapp. After college I moved to New York City, played jazz and club date gigs with Steven Scott & Bill Harrington and studied jazz & composition with Sir Roland Hanna, Jimmy Guiffre & Steve Reich.

I moved to Florida in 1994 where I built my own recording studio and released ten CD’s (both jazz & New Age music) on the CMR Records label. I composed most of the music on the CDs. In addition to my own jazz quartet, I played regularly with several 17 piece big bands in South Florida and such respected musicians as tenor saxophonist Ray Oram & legendary trombonist Art Sares. Many big band gigs involved sight reading charts for shows at the Coral Springs Performing Arts Center as well as improvisation.

With my children grown, I recently moved back to New York City. I have home recording studio and I continue to compose, teach and perform whenever I have the opportunity.

Marilynn Seits - Audio Engineering, digital editing, MIDI arranging

I had a small home studio for several years before building a 48 track full service studio in West Palm Beach in 1995. I recently sold the studio and moved back to New York City and I have a home studio here. The audio & MIDI recording & editing program I use is Pogic Pro 7 on an iMac along with Apogee Ensemble, MOTU MIDI Express interfaces, a Kurtzweil PC88 MX keyboard and Westlake monitors. I have composed and edited music for a dozen CDs using this setup, recorded many demos for clients and done MIDI arranging for clients' original songs. I have also edited and "cut" music from CDs for dressage riders and ice skaters to use in competition. I have a beautiful sounding Bosendorfer 6'6" piano in my living room for recording piano CDs along with a Neuman U67 tube mic and 2 Neuman KM 84's for inside the piano. I can also provide piano accompaniment for vocalists and print out lead sheets in the CORRECT keys for your voice. Visit www.cmrrecords.com for more info on past studio clients.
