Marilynn Seits - Seits & Sounds

Artist’s Bio: 

• Jazz pianist Marilynn Seits moved from New York City to Asheville, NC almost 10 years ago now and is available for big band and small ensemble work as well as solo piano performances. •  Has an electric keyboard, complete sound system & car. • Formerly played at the Waldorf Astoria and Intercontinental hotels in NYC and in several hotels and clubs in the West Palm Beach area. •  Currently an adjunct in the music department of Mars Hill University.  •  Released ten CD’s (both jazz & New Age music) on the CMR Records label and composed most of the music on the CDs. •  Played in the Asheville Jazz Orchestra led by Dave Wilken and several big bands in S. Florida, sight reading charts for shows at the Coral Springs Performing Arts Center and other venues. •  Also currently the church pianist at First Christian Church in Candler, NC • 

Marilynn has a BS in Music Education from the U of Illinois, Champaign, and in New York City studied Electronic Music at The New School with composer Steve Reich, took piano and composition lessons with Sir Roland Hanna and Jimmy Guiffre, Moog Synthizer with Gershon Kingsley and Synclavier at Dartmouth College. She currently has some adult jazz piano students in Asheville and is a faculty adjunct at Mars Hill University accompanying and coaching  vocal and instrumental students. In NYC, she gave jazz vocal workshops, taught piano & voice for all ages at the Music School of Westchester in New Rochelle, Music & Movement at Silver Spoons and Gan Miriam in the Bronx, and at several Music Together Centers in Manhattan. 

Marilynn works with vocalists on breathing techniques, phrasing of the music, singing in the correct key, making song lists and finding the types of songs that work best for the voice.

Marilynn has been playing the piano for Sunday Services at First Christian Church of Asheville for several years now and was the organist at St Paul's Episcopal Church in Edneyville before that. In New York, she was the organist & music minister at St Peter's Episcopal Church in Port Chester and also played at St Gabriel's in the Bronx and St Mary's in Brooklyn Heights. 

Marilynn has performed for the Christmas Candlelight and the Spring Blooms Festival at Biltmore House for several years now. She has also given jazz concerts with bassist Sean McAusland at the Asheville Art Museum, the Pack Memorial Library, AAPF Fall Benefit Concerts, Asheville Women of Jazz Concerts, the Asheville Symphony Gala and at THE BLOCK off biltmore on jazz nights. 

For several years now she has also been presenting monthly music programs for seniors in Asheville at Lake Pointe Landing, Deerfield, Arbor Terrace,  and Givens Estates. In New York City she performed regularly at the Riverdale Y, Willow Towers, Meadowview and The Classic.

Also in New York City, Marilynn played regularly in Peacock Alley at the Waldorf Astoria and for various parties and events in the Plaza, St Moritz and Intercontinental Hotels.

In Florida, Marilynn's band The Vibrations Jazz Ensemble played at Sunfest on Flagler Drive, Music on the Avenue in Lake Worth and in City Place in West Palm Beach.
